Our Mission Statement:
To meet our patients' individual needs with highest quality dental care provided in a caring and comfortable atmosphere. We will work as a team to assure we provide clarity in communication, finances and education.
We will treat each patient with respect and strive to make each appointment the best experience possible while striving to build relationships and trust.
Althouse Family Dentistry is a smaller office where the patients are treated as family. Each patient is provided individual attention in a comfortable setting. All protocols for infection control are carefully followed. Our goal is to help each patient achieve optimal oral health and then, maintain their healthy status.
We participate with many dental insurance plans, allowing us to welcome most patients into our office family, and are happy to assist with any questions or problems concerning your dental plan. Dental insurance details may be confusing and we are happy to help you understand how those details affect your coverage.

DENTIST - ELLIOTT ALTHOUSE DDS
Dr. Althouse received his DDS degree at Georgetown University School of Dentistry after receiving his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University. Following graduation, he spent two years as a National Health Service dental officer in a community health center in Buckingham County, Virginia. The dental journey then brought him to Hampton Roads where he joined a group practice in Portsmouth. After a long tenure there, Dr. Althouse moved to the current location across the street from Mt. Trashmore in 2019.
HYGIENIST - REBECCA COELHO RDH
Rebecca M. Coelho, RDH, CDA, MSDH, joined the USN following high school, serving 5 years of active duty service. She then went to school to become a dental hygienist at ODU. After graduating in 2016, she practiced dental hygiene in private practice for 2 years before becoming a professor in the Medical Careers Institute School of Dental Assisting at ECPI University, in Virginia Beach, VA. She works to share her knowledge and experience with the next generation of dental professionals while also working in private practice and serving as a proud member of the USNR.
OFFICE COORDINATOR - CATHY MARKERT
Cathy came to us in the summer of 2019 with a wealth of experience in all areas of the front office, from the friendly voice you hear on the phone or the friendly greeting you receive when you enter the office. She manages scheduling, recall, billing and insurance.
DENTAL ASSISTANT - HOLLY PRUITT
Holly has teamed with Dr. Althouse since the early days of his dental career in Portsmouth. She is in charge of the clinical area, directly assisting Dr. Althouse, managing inventory of supplies, preparation for each patient, coordination and tracking of cases to and from the dental laboratory, sterilization and infection control.
